OCRACOKE The Pearl of The Outer Banks Ray McAllister 9780615716787 Books
I quite enjoyed this book and found it well-suited for my needs. I would recommend it for anyone with an interest in the area, its character, and its history, as it provides a thorough and interesting overview. As someone who is interested in the Outer Banks culturally, I found the book a very useful resource. McAllister covers the subject with real affection, and touches on everything from the island's early days as a pirate haven to the its place on the front lines of the Atlantic conflict in World War II to a more recent disagreement over the construction of a multistory brick hotel. Ocracoke emerges as a place at once isolated from the wider world yet constantly in flux. Those looking for a "travel guide" in the typical sense may be disappointed - although it does contain some descriptions of notable eateries and sites in Ocracoke (such the famous lighthouse), the book is certainly not a list of recommendations or reviews. That's just fine - the book doesn't need them. Those who want a taste of what Ocracoke and its people are like should look no further.

OCRACOKE The Pearl of The Outer Banks Ray McAllister 9780615716787 Books Reviews
Ocracoke is more than the pearl of the Outer Banks, it is the whole oyster. Ray McAllister has captured the special history, culture and peace of this island. Your senses will come alive as you envision the nature of this island and sense the fresh salt air bringing a smile to your face. Gunnar Melder, SuccessWerks
Excellent book. As a lifetime Oacrakoke visitor I really enjoyed this book
Hubby absolutely LOVED this informative book about his second fave place on earth. Cape Hatteras is his first, so I also bought that book by the same author. Wonderfully written!! 5 stars!!
